The Devil wears Prada

The devil wears Prada is like shopping at Primark, the quality may not always be the best and it might be a little rough around the edges, but overall, its great and popular clothing. If you have not figured out, it’s a film revolving around the world of fashion. It focuses on Andrea, or Andy (Anne Hathaway), an aspiring journalist who ends up in a job unwanted to her that is very hard to get – being the assistant to Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep). She is the editor of ‘runway’ magazine, one of the biggest fashion magazines in the world. It just so happens that Andy knows little to nothing about fashion and has no fashion sense either. She is forced to learn a lot in a short amount of time, along with constant judgement from co-assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). One thing I enjoyed about the film was the chaotic and frantic way it presented the world that us and Andy had been thrown into, this was in part done by the contrast between Andy and the rest of the people at Runway, but also the zany score that accompanied most of the film. As expected, the costumes and wardrobe throughout were great, but the cast were also excellent. Streep gave a mostly subtle performance. I also love Stanley Tucci and thought he was amazing. Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway also gave brilliant performances.

One thing that I was not much a fan of was the relationship subplot of the film. Andy started in a point where she was in a good relationship with her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Grenier). She then met Christian (Simon Baker) who felt like a forced further love interest. Later one she lost the relationship with Nate because she was so swamped with work. Then whilst being in the virtually same work position, got it on with Christian in a way that just let so unearned and unnecessary.

Overall, the devil wears Prada is a stylish, emotionally engaging film that although had some problems, is an enjoyable fashionable flick. And that will be all.
