Following the heels of Infinity War’s dramatic ending, Antman and the wasp was great. It gave audiences a fun pallet cleanser after one of cinemas most shocking reveals and follows up Captain America Civil War (the last time we saw Antman) great. We first saw Scott (Paul Rudd) under house arrest for his crime in Germany (which by the way was the best quarantining I have ever seen- sorry Rapunzel). Scott is then kidnapped by his ex-lover/ partner in crime Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily) and her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). They believe that Scott had quantum entangled with their led to be deceased mother whilst he was in the Quantum Realm and knows how to get her back. It really sounds like the writers just put the words ‘Quantum’ in front of everything, doesn’t it? All the returning cast from the first film are once again amazing, particularly Paul Rudd and Michael Pena- who plays Scott’s best bud Luis. Both their characters are hilarious and I laughed out loud countless times while watching. The humour is also considerably funnier than the first, with the writing being a lot stronger. However, one character who I was not as keen on was Sonny Birch (Walton Goggins). He felt very two-dimensional and seemed to have no other purpose than to make money. Another thing I’m not so keen on is the way Hope seemed to ‘Mother’ Scott throughout the film by talking down to him, pitying and mocking him. The visuals in the film are amazing, the film was so creative with the use of shrinking and growing and adapting that for fun and new fights in the MCU. Especially in the finale, the intense car scenes complemented with a fantastic score made for a great finale. However, it did feel a little a little broken up with the reunion of Hank and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) taking away from the intensity and I think the film would’ve been better off separating these two events a lot more. Aside from this, I think Antman and the wasp is great and cannot wait to see it grow (pun intended) in the third film- Antman and the wasp: Quantumaina. Seriously, they really are just putting quantum infront of everything then?
