Elf is a wonderfully festive film-almost everything about this film has been done to a tee. The casting is fantastic from Will Ferrell in the titular role to Peter Dinklage as Michael Finch- a rich businessman who works for a children’s book company. Favreau also manages to perfectly balance the childish, playful humour with a wholesome meaning and message. The film is a fish out of water story, we meet Buddy (one of the most optimistic people ever?), a human who grew up at the North Pole believing he was an Elf. When he finds out his life has been a lie- he ventures to New York City in search of his biological father Walter Hobbs (James Caan). On the way to meet his dad, he accidently falls in love with New Yorker Jovie (Zooey Deschanel).
There really isn’t anything more to say about Elf. If you’ve seen it you know how amazing it is. And if you haven’t, stop reading this right now and go watch Elf! The blend of fantastic cast, impeccable directing and amazing storyline adds up to one of the greatest family Christmas films of all time.
